Some individuals are at especially high risk of colon cancer. Those who have a first-degree relative (parents, siblings, and children) who has been diagnosed with colon polyps or colon cancer, have a risk for this cancer that may be two-to-three times above normal. Persons at higher risk should begin screening at a younger age and may need to be tested more frequently.
