Here are example of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), a skin cancer likely derived from the keratinocytes (skin- surface cells) in the upper epidermis. Note the crusty appearance. There are several types of squamous-cell carcinoma, depending on how aggressive the tumor's cells are. For example, "poorly differentiated" squamous-cell carcinoma has a much greater tendency to spread unchecked and kill a patient than "well-differentiated" SCC.
