Pylorus (Stomach Drain)
After you swallow your food, it travels down the esophagus and into your stomach where powerful acid and digestive juices convert your solid food into a liquid - about the consistency of cream of potato soup. Eventually, the now liquefied food is squirted a little bit at a time through another one-way valve which drains into the small intestine. This valve at the bottom of your stomach is called the pylorus. This is a short video that illustrates the view your doctor has during a gastroscopy examination. Here you can see the gastroscope passing through the pyloric opening and into the first portion of the small intestine called the duodenum.
