Tattooing the Colon

This patient just had a large colon polyp removed that looked different than
normal. If the biopsy shows abnormal cells, the doctor may wish to repeat
the colonoscopy and closely re-examine this area at a future time. To be
sure that the exact same spot is identified, the doctor may "tattoo"
the colon by injecting a small amount of sterile black pigment adjacent to the
polypectomy site. Like a sign along the highway, this tattoo marks the
location with a permanent black spot that can be easily found at the next
colonoscopy exam.

Best viewed via a broadband connection such as cable modem or DSL service. A 56K dialup modem may take up to 10 minutes to load.
