Preoperative Area
Soon after arriving for a "scope" examination, our patients are greeted by our Registered Nurses and Certified Medical Assistants who admit them to one of 4 preparation rooms in our Preoperative Area. Here the patient is asked to change into a cloth surgical gown and routine vital signs are taken - temperature, pulse, and blood pressure. If conscious sedation is to be given, the nurse will insert a thin catheter into an arm vein. The patients are then wheeled by stretcher into the operating room where the doctor administers the sedatives through this intravenous catheter.
