Dr. Fusco Returns From DDW 2007

Dr. Robert Fusco just returned from a week long medical conference in Washington, DC with a wince-inducing name: Digestive Disease Week or "DDW" to those in the know. Digestive Disease Week is considered the largest and most prestigious meeting in the world for the GI professional. Every year it attracts physicians, researchers and academics who desire to stay up-to-date in their respective fields. This year's conference was the largest yet with over 17,000 digestive disease specialists from all over the world.

Washington Convention Center officials said they believe this was the second-biggest meeting at the center since it opened in 2003. The convention area was a blur of purple knapsacks -- one of the freebies given out at registration. Every corner of the 2.3 million-square-foot center was being used for classes, presentation of academic papers, lectures, hands-on courses, and an extensive self-learning center where doctors could study the latest techniques. Dr. Fusco remarked, "The lectures were very interesting, but the best part was the opportunity to exchange ideas with other gastroenterologists from across the world on new and better ways to deliver care to our patients.
