Procedures We Perform

WARNING: Individuals taking the semiglutide class of medications known as (GLP-1) receptor agonists may delay how their stomach empties. This may interfere with colonoscopy preparation AND increase the risk of aspiration under anesthesia for BOTH colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (EGD) exams.

ALL patients taking these medications once weekly MUST stop them temporarily for 1 week before their procedure appointment.

ALL patients taking these medications once daily MUST stop them temporarily for 24 hours before their procedure appointment.

Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the procedure, which will have to be rescheduled.

We do not perform surgery. Our care is limited to diagnosis and medical treatment. However, we are trained and experienced in both upper-scope” exam of the stomach (gastroscopy) and lower-scope exams of the colon (colonoscopy). We have had great success with the O'Regan Hemorrhoidal Ligation procedure for treating internal hemorrhoids. We also offer the “camera in a pill” PillCam™ procedure to better visualize portions of the small intestine.

Anesthesia Services

Before your procedure, you will be evaluated by an experienced Board Certified Anesthesiologist. During the procedure, you will be continuously monitored by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) using the latest equipment. The upper endoscopy or colonoscopy anesthesia is called Monitored Anesthesia Care, or MAC. MAC anesthesia is ideally suited to a short procedure like a gastroscopy or colonoscopy. It is quick-acting and very safe. Unlike general anesthesia, you breathe on your own and do not require a breathing tube. You feel no pain or embarrassment during the procedure. The anesthesia wears off quickly in the recovery room, and unlike many other anesthetic regimens, postoperative nausea and vomiting are rare.
