Lisa Fadden, a nurse practitioner with her doctorate in nursing

Lisa Fadden DNP CRNP

Lisa Fadden was born in Pennsylvania. She attended Kent State University in Ohio and graduated with her undergraduate nursing degree in 1995.  She received her Master's in Nursing as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner from Carlow University in 2008.  Lisa continued on her educational journey, earning her doctorate of nursing degree from Carlow University in 2011.  Lisa was elected into the Eta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.  Lisa focused her doctoral dissertation on a quality improvement project at the hospital level, following patients diagnosed with MRSA infection.  Lisa's project proved, through a follow-up protocol, that MRSA infection could be eradicated without treatment. Lisa worked closely with Dr. Richard Kim on this project, as he was the physician committee member assigned to her project. Lisa is currently working on the publication of her study.

Ms. Fadden is board certified as a nurse practitioner with her doctorate.  She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.  Lisa is also a professor at Carlow University and is passionate about teaching. While working on her doctoral degree, Lisa worked as a graduate assistant, teaching a nutrition course for three years.  Lisa currently teaches health assessment, pharmacology, and anatomy & physiology at the undergraduate level. Lisa also works for Carlow as a Nurse Practitioner advisor and has 40 advisees.  She loves this aspect of nursing and states that earning her doctorate opened up a new world of opportunity. Besides her commitment to her family and students, she enjoys hiking, biking, tennis, traveling, and theater in her leisure time.  Lisa resides in Sewickley with her two children, Lauren and Martin.

Throughout Lisa's nursing career, she has always worked in the hospital setting, stating that this is her passion. Lisa started her career at The Medical Center Beaver, PA, in the medical-surgical unit from 1995 to 1999.  1999 she crossed trained at the GI lab, where she began her first GI experience. In 2005 she moved to the Sewickley area and transferred to the Sewickley Valley Hospital's surgical and GI unit.  Lisa continued as a surgical/GI nurse while pursuing her CRNP. While completing her graduate degree, Lisa was hired by West Penn Anesthesia as their Nurse Practitioner.  Her duties as an anesthesia CRNP included; assessments of patients before surgery, obtaining a thorough history and physical, ordering medications, assessing in-house surgical and GI patients, and assessing and clearing patients for future surgical cases. Lisa has had a wide variety of experience with surgical candidates and GI patients throughout her nursing career as an RN, CRNP, and DNP.  She is excited and looking forward to her new journey with The Center for Digestive Disease as their new Nurse Practitioner hospitalist.
